image Snapshots from the past: Bangkok travel memories

There are trips you plan… and trips that stay with you. Bangkok was one of those for me.

Not just because of the places (though the golden temples, the chaos of the streets, and the endless food stalls definitely played their part) but because of how it felt. Loud, vibrant, overwhelming… and somehow deeply grounding at the same time.

Bangkok travel memories: a different kind of trip on my mind

As I get closer to my next company meetup, I find myself thinking about Bangkok more than usual.

These kinds of meetups happen once a year. It’s a rare moment where a distributed team like ours comes together in person. It’s not a holiday by any means – it’s rather focused, intentional time: aligning on goals, collaborating deeply, strengthening relationships that usually live behind screens.

There are sessions, discussions, planning. Real work, but also… something else.

Because when people who don’t usually share the same physical space finally do, something shifts.

The moment I keep going back to

It wasn’t the most famous landmark, not even the most beautiful one :)

It was a quiet moment – standing still after a full day of walking, heat, noise, and sensory overload. That strange calm that hits you in the middle of chaos.

I remember thinking: This is what travel is supposed to feel like. And in a way, that’s what these meetups try to recreate: not the destination, but the presence.

The golden stillness

Of course, there were the temples! my Bangkok travel memories can’t live without the temples. The kind that makes you stop talking without even realising it. Places like Wat Pho or Wat Arun: not just stunning, but alive with history and meaning, still part of daily life in the city.

And yet, what stayed with me wasn’t just their beauty; it was the contrast – stepping out from silence into streets buzzing with life again.

The chaos I secretly loved

My Bangkok travel memories are just like the city: they don’t whisper – they sizzle. If you have been there, you know what I mean!

Street food on every corner, smells you can’t quite place, flavours you’ll never forget. It’s a city where eating isn’t just a necessity: it’s an experience per se.

You don’t need to plan what to eat, you can just follow the crowd, and somehow, that was always the right choice.

Work, travel… and the space in between

Company meetups aren’t about sightseeing – they’re not designed to be.

But there’s always that in-between space, early mornings, late evenings, quick walks between sessions, or the reset time at the end of the working day, where you get to feel a place, even if briefly.

That’s where the magic sneaks in. Even though it’s not a pleasure kid of trip, we always manage to squeeze in just enough fun to make it human. And honestly, that balance is what makes it special.

Why this memory matters now

As I prepare for this year’s meetup, I realise I’m not chasing a destination – also because we’re having in my town! But despite that, I would chase that particular feeling that’s attached to every team meetup: being out of routine, being fully present, and connecting – not just through work, but through shared experience.

Travel reminds you of who you are outside your everyday roles. And sometimes, work trips, even structured ones, can do the same.
